Samples 2003-08

Samples is an idiosyncratic portrait series in which the model's face, navel and other body parts are cast with sculptural alginate and plaster. Silicone is then poured in selected areas of the molds to create small body imprints that retain the surface texture and shape of the human body. The translucent silicone imprints are then suspended, lit and photographed in a darkened environment. Samples is an exploration of the human body and its transformation through the medium of sculpture and light. The final images have biomorphic and cosmogonic references to other worldly forms and in the case of the navel imprints to black wholes. For image sizes download the Samples book file.
